Obama’nin dunku konusmasi — secim kargasasi otesinde — ulke icin onemliydi

Kesitlerini bir kac yerden dinledim.
Oncelikle, tarz ve delivery olarak cok saglamdi. Bu kadar personal bir konu hakkinda, o personal tarzindan odun vermeden konustu. Durustce ve acikca: “I remember cringing when I heard my white grandmother who raised me use racial stereotypes and confess her fear of passing black men on the street”
Ikincisi, politically correct veya abstract olmak yerine irk konusunun gerceklerine degindi: “The fact is that the comments that have been made and the issues that have surfaced over the last few weeks reflect the complexities of race in this country that we’ve never really worked through – a part of our union that we have yet to perfect. And if we walk away now, if we simply retreat into our respective corners, we will never be able to come together and solve challenges like health care, or education, or the need to find good jobs for every American.”
Ucuncusu, bu ulkenin irk konusunu — ender bir bicimde — birden fazla boyutu ile — tarihi, sosyal, ekonomik ve siyasi — ele alan bir konusmaydi. Malcolm X’lere, MLK’lerin otesinde, OJ spectacle’indan, Reagan’ci sagci entellektuellerine de gondermeler yapti.
Daha onemlisi, her tarafi memnun etmek yerine, bu konuda kayda deger — ve riskli — bir pozisyon aldi: ” I can no more disown him than I can disown the black community. I can no more disown him than I can my white grandmother”. Bazilari icin fazlasi ile durust ve gercekci — hatta saf bir konusma olarak da nitelendirildi nitekim. Herseye ragmen, kendi kimligini sonunda halka gostermesi, o riske deger bir karardi.
Secim kampanyasindaki durumunu savunmak icin yapilmis olan bir konusma olmasina ragmen, kanimca bu ulkenin siyasi tarihinde onemli bir konusma idi.
